“Athens. The city is the museum.”
Welcome to the new online platform, available at www.athens.withgoogle.com, that opens up Athens to visitors who want to experience the “rhythm” of the city and discover its lesser-known corners in an innovative way. Visitors can also “listen” to the city through the stories of its people.
Athens itself is a museum, with street art, restaurants serving modern cuisine, and nightlife venues showcasing a different side of the city.
How does the platform work?
After selecting one of the suggested routes on the platform, a map will appear on the screen. The map shows the route with pins that correspond to the suggested stops, which correspond to the audio content. Just like on Google Maps, a dotted line will guide the user from one point to another. Users can also select any stop along the route to be redirected directly to that point. Athenians share their favorite places and stories that define the city.
The first proposed route of the “Athens. The City is the Museum” platform offers a walk through the busy neighbourhoods of Metaxourgeio, Kerameikos, Psirri and Omonia, while more routes/audio walks are expected to be added by the end of the year.
