Leonidio is about to host the world’s biggest DWS climbing competition, so get ready for action and excitement!
The Psicobloc Open Series competition, an extreme free-climbing speed competition, will be held on October 26 and 27. Two people will compete at a time, climbing an 18-meter-high wall overhanging the harbor of Plaka at full speed without ropes. Then, they will fall into the sea, or “open water.”
Admission to the event is free and open to the public (a participation fee applies to competitors). Whether you are an experienced climber or are simply curious about this unique sport, the Psicobloc Open Series is a great opportunity to watch world-class athletes perform incredible feats while enjoying the stunning natural beauty of the region.
Plaka Harbor is located about 1.3 kilometers from Leonidio. It is situated in a valley at the foot of Mount Parnon and is listed as a traditional settlement with preserved architecture and historical value. It is also a must-see for climbing enthusiasts as it is considered one of the best climbing spots in the world. Towering above Leonidio’s houses is a stunning, 250-meter-tall red limestone cliff called Kokkinovrachos. It rises like a natural stone wall and has more than 2,000 routes of varying difficulty, making it an ideal spot for both beginner and advanced climbers.
