Nestled in the mountainous chestnut groves on the slopes of Mount Parnon, Kastanitsa is one of the oldest and most beautiful villages in the Peloponnese. With its tower houses, flower-filled courtyards, whitewashed cobblestone streets, and traditional lanterns, Kastanitsa has been recognized as a village of exceptional natural and architectural beauty since 1967. It is also one of Greece’s leading chestnut producers.
During the 40th Chestnut Festival, which takes place on October 26 and 27 this year, visitors will have the opportunity to experience unique folklore, tasty delicacies, “glenti” in the village squares, music, and dance. They will also have the chance to learn everything about this precious fruit.
You can also visit the Kastanitsa Environmental Information Center to learn about the Tsakonians, their customs, and the rich nature of the Parnonas Mountains. The village was famous for its lime production in the 20th century, and you can learn about the lime kilns there.
Alternative tourism has blossomed in this area in recent years. Trails through the surrounding forests offer a unique hiking experience. Blue Mosaic and its trusted partners can help you design an exciting journey!
